There’s a new look to practice in College Park.

The practice field next to Byrd Stadium hosted a lively day of competition last Tuesday morning, on a warm sunny day open to members of the media. Practice had a more fun, looser tone than the previous three years under coach John Tillman, and competition and high tempo were stressed more than ever before under his reign.

Though the new rules have arguably watered down the specificity of the game slightly, DI squads still often rely on specialist to perform highly valuable roles that can have tremendous influence on a team’s overall success.

The fall is a time for development, strength and renewal. The weather is terrific, you are surrounded by friends, and the pressure of looming games is on the distant horizon. There should be a simplicity and purity to the fall. Go to work and don’t waste a day. Go slow and do it right. Welcome new teammates with open arms and teach them the right way. Listen to your seniors. Be kind to walk-ons; their dreams are powerful.
