At this year’s US Lacrosse Convention in Philadelphia, IL‘s Terry Foy spoke with Aimee Dixon about the fundraising status of the Fields of Growth organization’s efforts to fund a national team for Uganda that could compete in the 2014 FIL Championships in Denver. So far the group had raised $50,000 for the cause, Dixon said, but they were still $80,000 short of their goal, with just 19 days to amass the needed funds.

2013 Record: 8-5 (3-3 in Ivy League)

Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011, Penn stumbled the next year to a 3-10 record. In the offseason coach Mike Murphy decided it was time to change the team’s style and be more aggressive. “I just made a decision that we were going to play faster and get up and down,” Murphy said. The team finished the 2013 season tied with Delaware in scoring (9.00 GPG, T-43rd) while having the best scoring defense in DI (7.38 GAA). With returners at both ends, Penn will look to hold the line on D while becoming more potent on O.

On a bitter, blustery Thursday night at Homewood Field in Baltimore, the Georgetown Hoyas traveled to Johns Hopkins to square off with the Blue Jays in both teams’ first scrimmage of the season. Despite the brutal weather, a few hardy fans stuck it out to watch the action. Wandering the sideline shooting pictures, it was hard to get a true sense of the play and individuals on the field, but a few things stood out.

New faces on offense mix with an experience defensive group for Robert Morris in 2014, but don’t expect that to mean this group won’t still score in bunches.

“Our style of play will be similar to years past,” coach Andrew McMinn said, “but each year we’re trying to become more and more well rounded.”
