Inside Lacrosse is taking a closer look at the top 40 teams from the Face-Off Yearbook, as well as much more counting down to the 2014 lacrosse season. Pick up your Face-Off Yearbook here for your tablet or smartphone, and read more about the Yale Bulldogs below.

Yale Bulldogs

Warrior Men’s DI Media Poll: 12
USILA Coaches Poll: 13
2013 Record: 12-5, NCAA Quarterfinals

There are two ways to look at Yale heading into the 2014 season. Either they’re a team with stars and a few holes to fill that’s earned the right to be “afraid to pick against,” or they’ve got a few stars, a lot of holes to fill, an identity to find and a tight-rope schedule.

[25 Jan 2014 | Comments Off on NCAA Preview: Air Force | ]
Air Force lacrosse

Inside Lacrosse is taking a closer look at the top 40 teams from the Face-Off Yearbook, as well as much more counting down to the 2014 lacrosse season. Pick up your Face-Off Yearbook here for your tablet or smartphone, and read more about the Air Force Falcons below.

Air Force Falcons

Face-Off Yearbook Ranking: 23
2013 Record: 7-7 (2-5 ECAC)

A trio of one-goal losses to Denver (in overtime), Ohio State and Fairfield separated the Falcons from the second seed in the ECAC Tournament and missing the league postseason altogether.

Air Force is coming off one of the most tumultuous fall seasons one can imagine for a team; a pending government shutdown canceled their trip to Play 4 Parkinson’s, they beat Notre Dame in an exhibition and, most dramatically and tragically, coach Eric Seremet’s family was involved in a car accident that led to the death of his wife.

[25 Jan 2014 | Comments Off on Matt Striebel on the U.S. Team Try-Outs | ]
InsideLacrosse.com

In advance of this weekend’s Champion Challenge, we’re running this piece from the December issue of Inside Lacrosse. The Signature Style sequence, which ran in the back of the magazine accompanied by an edited version of this Q&A, featured a goal Striebel scored in last September’s initial try-out. Since then, Striebel has continued through the try-out process and will play in the final evaluation phase this weekend before finding out whether he made the 23-man team that’ll compete in Denver in July at the 2014 FIL World Championship.

Below, read Striebel’s account of the play and the process, which — in his writerly way — evolved into a treatise on his thoughts on competition, which is at the heart of the Champion Challenge.
